In a society where young Black men are often overlooked and underestimated, Letter to My Young Brothers is a refreshing and much-needed voice. This book sheds light on the challenges that these boys face and provides tools for parents to help them succeed. Indeed, this is a must-read for the youth, parents, and educators.
If you like lines such as “We fell in love and the rest of the world disappeared”, you are a lover and need to read this book!
The author strengthens the roots, calls for justice, and challenges readers to a higher destiny.
What a heart cry of honesty. The story of love lost (in death) and sought after in undying hope. Beauty calls us home. Our hearts will never be content until uniting with our soul mate. This is every man’s story. Well written with the passion of eecummings, bdylan, and elizabeth/robertbrowning.
American Challenges In The Obama Era Part 1 is another hit for long-time author Larry Ukali Johnson-Redd. I am a long-time fan of his work. He is consistent and writes beyond fluff in favor of getting to the core for his readers. I recommend his book. As an 8-time Best Poet/Performer award winner and author of 17 books myself, I’d like to say I know good poetry when I read it. I have each and every book Larry has written and appreciate his talent to the max point.
I really like the poem Obamaland and the breakdown of liberation in the Obama era. This book mixes serious educational writing with strong but delicate around the edge poetry. Good job! I learned a little something. It has a lot of deep information and positive suggestions for our Government. A call to action is what I get from this book. This book should be very useable in schools regarding African American study subjects. Very profound!!

CHALLENGES IN THE OBAMA ERA. It is a call for Black people to unite, to love themselves and each other, to stop killing one another, and to move forward. He urges our young men to pull up their pants and be kind to Black women. He is very interested in young Blacks getting a good education. He also urges America to pay the reparations that Black people are due after being stolen from Africa, ripped from their families, the middle passage, and the horrors of slavery.
Parts of the book are prose and parts are wonderful poems that say everything Larry-Ukali Johnson-Redd wishes to pass on to his readers. It is a wonderful book that gives hope in a time that sometimes feels so empty. People are in need and he has suggestions for President Obama to use to get us back on track. For sure it is a must-read book.
